Purpose & Scope
Newsnidan is committed to accuracy and accountability. This Corrections Policy explains how we handle factual errors, omissions, and significant clarifications in our reporting. It applies to all editorial content published on newsnidan.com, including breaking news, features, analysis, multimedia and published archives.
Why Corrections Matter
Trust is the foundation of journalism. Prompt and transparent corrections preserve that trust by:
- Fixing factual mistakes that could mislead readers.
- Explaining what changed and why.
- Documenting our commitment to accuracy for readers and sources.
How to Report an Error
If you believe Newsnidan has published incorrect or misleading information, please notify us. Preferred channels:
- Email: corrections@newsnidan.com
- Editorial contact page: Contact Us (select "Report an error").
- Social media DMs: Send a direct message to our official accounts — but email is preferred for faster tracking.
When reporting, please include the article URL, a short description of the issue, and any evidence or sources supporting your claim.
Correction Procedure (Step-by-Step)
- Receipt & Logging: All reports are recorded in our corrections log with date, reporter contact (if provided) and article reference.
- Preliminary Review: An editor conducts an initial assessment within 48 hours to determine whether the report has merit and whether immediate action is required (e.g., temporary update or clarification).
- Investigation & Verification: The editorial team reviews original reporting, contact records, and sources. We seek confirmation from primary sources or subject experts where possible.
- Decision: If the claim is substantiated, we determine the appropriate remedy: correction, clarification, update, or retraction.
- Action & Publication: Corrections are applied directly to the article with a clear editor’s note describing the change, the reason, and the date/time of correction. For significant changes, a standalone correction notice is published as appropriate.
- Notification: When corrections materially alter a story’s meaning or affect many readers, we may notify subscribers or post an update on social channels directing readers to the corrected version.
- Recordkeeping: All corrections and related documents are kept in our internal corrections registry for accountability and auditing.
Types of Remedies
Correction
A factual error that does not invalidate the core premise of the story but requires revision (e.g., wrong date, incorrect title, misquoted figure). We update the article and append an editor’s note such as: “Correction: [text]. We corrected [issue] on [date].”
Clarification
When information is accurate but could be misunderstood, we add clarifying language and an explanatory note describing the reason for the clarification.
Retraction
For cases where reported information is fundamentally wrong (e.g., a fabricated claim) and invalidates the story, we remove the content or mark it clearly as retracted, providing an explanation and, where appropriate, an apology.
Apology
In rare cases where harm has been done by our reporting, we may issue an editorial apology alongside corrections or retractions.
Timelines & Priorities
We prioritize corrections that affect safety, legal rights, monetary matters, personal reputation or public decision-making. Our target response times:
- Initial acknowledgement of report: within 48 hours.
- Simple factual corrections (dates, numbers, names): typically within 72 hours of verification.
- Complex investigations requiring sourcing or legal review: timelines will vary; we inform the reporter of expected timeframes.
Editor’s Notes & Transparency
All corrections will be clearly labeled in the article with an editor’s note describing what changed and why. When multiple edits occur, we record the edit history (date and brief reason) in the article or our corrections archive so readers can follow changes over time.
Anonymous & Third-Party Claims
We evaluate claims from anonymous reporters and third parties with the same rigor as other reports. Anonymous reports are logged and investigated; however, the lack of an identifiable complainant may limit our ability to seek clarifying information.
Legal Considerations
If legal counsel is required (e.g., potential defamation, privacy breaches), corrections will be handled in consultation with our legal advisors. Legal review may affect timelines but we aim to maintain transparency about the progress of such cases.
Appeals & Unresolved Disputes
If a complainant disagrees with our decision after a correction review, they may request a secondary review by senior editorial leadership by writing to editor@newsnidan.com with “Correction Appeal” in the subject line. We will re-evaluate and respond with our findings and rationale.
Preventing Future Errors
We use each correction as a learning opportunity. Measures include:
- Regular training for journalists on verification and sourcing.
- Updated editorial checklists and verification protocols.
- Periodic audits of published archival content for accuracy.
Corrections Archive & Reporting
Where applicable, we maintain an accessible corrections archive that lists major corrections, retractions, and clarifications. This archive may be published on a dedicated page or made available on request to promote accountability.
